New camera

I have new camera people, It's a Sony Alpha a200 I got it for £250 which i thought was okay. I went into the camera shop asking for a second opinion on a Nikon D3000 which is what i was hoping to get. But he said with the Nikons is you can only get Nikon lens for the Nikon cameras and apparently they cost a lot so he said if i get a Sony i can then get cheap second hand good lens for it as well. So that is what I'm hoping to do! obviously all that might be a lie but that is what the camera man told me and yeah i don't know. I don't know much about cameras so, the lens on it at the moment is a minolta 50mm lens. I'm happy with it and i got it for cheaper then i would with some other cameras. I would of liked the Nikon D3000 but yeah I don't know.
Anyway these photos are the ones i tested it with today, Still trying to get used to it! I think I will go get another lens soon as well. I'm finding it hard to take outfit pictures with this camera which is a little bit of a bummer! I'll get used to it though I'm sure. photos are of me and my cat for some lolz (un original mirror photo soz) and then i spent the rest of the day drinking tea and eating carrot cake in Real Patisserie, I'm going to try and have a productive weekend as the plans i had made haven't really worked out so i haven't got much to do this weekend. Tomorrow I am going to work with my mum in her antique shop again and then i should spend the rest of it working on my projects, Fun fun fun! hope you all have a lovely weekend and hopefully by the end of mine i will have worked out a better way of getting some good outfit pictures!
Oh and also Strike put some photos up of me on their blog, the photos from the shoot i did in Shoreditch last week!

  2. cute cat :) use a tripod and a self timer! Then stick something up where you are going to stand like a broom or something so you can see the focus and then try that :) xxx

  4. The pictures look really good! :-) I remember the first day I had my SLR and I was sort of disappointed I couldn't take photos especially outfit ones as easily as I could before but you get used to it so quickly :-) If you don't already I'd recommend a tripod and a remote as the easiest way, hope you have a good weekend :-D x x

  5. To be honest, only being able to use one "brand" of lens is not an issue - prices for lenses are expensive, but they also give quality (and are relative in a sense). Also there's sigma, which do both Nikon and Canon fit, so what that man said isn't technically true. It concerns me a little with what he said, also, if I'm honest.
Also price of lens depends if it's new, and what you want, also! 50mm f/1.8 lenses are generally VERY cheap for what you get. The lens is often the most important part, so say spending £300 for a lens, is really not very much (when for example, the Canon 5d mk2 camera is £1,500). Basically you get what you pay for, mostly.

Ultimately, it's about finding a camera that fits your uses and you're comfortable with :)I think the best 'tips' are to just take a lot of photo, and read the manual, and any other basic info (about the lens, and basics on photography depending on what your skill level is).

Experimenting is basically the best way to get there! If you're wanting to take self portraits, then I suggest getting a remote - you can get them on ebay and amazon quite cheaply, and that'll enable you to focus and shoot whilst infront of the lens, which is very handy.

  6. nice camera! I would just reccomend finding a place to rest the camera on - can even stack books & put it on top to find the perfect height - set the self timer & wah lah! xx

  9. Ooh your new camera looks good and was cheap-ish, the pictures look pretty good so yeah. I found it really tricky with my camera when I first got it too. You just need to play around with the settings and things. I ended up getting a tripod from a carboot for £5 as well. If you have anywhere for it to sit at a good height to take your outfits that'll be good enough, you just need to find that one good spot and like Amy mentioned, I used to get the ironing board to focus it. I just manage without these days though, even though I have a remote for it, I just always forget.
What type of lens are you going to get? I don't think you'd need one really, I only ever use my 55mm one. I don't actually know what types you can get but the other big lens mine came with hardly ever gets used, it's more of a scenery type thing.

  10. N'awh, your kitty is adorable! I have the Nikon D3100 (one up from the D3000) and love it haha, could've helped you out if you ended up getting the Nikon. Does your camera have autofocus? That is usually key to taking outfit photos on your own with a DSLR (: Might also be worth picking up a camera remote from eBay too! xxxx
